With the aim of supporting joint cooperation and strengthening the existing strategic partnership relations, the University of Sharjah signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the University and the UAE’s Society of Engineers, which was signed for the University of Sharjah by its Chancellor His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, and signed on behalf of the Society by its President Eng. Mohamed Mashroom.

 Under this agreement, cooperation between the University of Sharjah and the Society will be developed in a number of training and research fields, scientific activities and conferences, as well as providing scientific advice and benefiting from the academic expertise of the University.

In his speech during the signing ceremony of the MoU, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy affirmed that the University of Sharjah has now become one of the largest local and regional universities thanks to the support and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of Sharjah. The number of its students, he added, registered during this year reached nearly 16,500 students from different countries of the world, of whom 2,600 are students and researchers at the graduate level. The University is currently offering a large number of distinguished academic programs that meet the needs of the local labor market, in addition to its research institutes, centers of excellence, and branches of the University spread across the cities of the Emirate of Sharjah.

He added that the University now, within its current five-year strategic plan, places community service, participation in its development, and cooperation with all local entities and institutions among its priorities. In this context, that agreement is now being signed with the Society of Engineers, as the College of Engineering at the University of Sharjah, which offers many academic programs in all fields and engineering sciences, is witnessing an increasing turnout of students, especially locals, to enroll in its programs, whether in undergraduate or graduate programs. The College can cooperate with the Society in practical training for its

students, and the Society of Engineers can also benefit from the expertise available to researchers at the Research Institute for Sciences and Engineering, and the training programs offered by the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University.

For his part, Eng. Mohamed Mashroom, President of the Society, welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, which confirmed that it will serve the goals of the Society during this stage as it supports the study of modern and advanced engineering disciplines that the labor market needs these days, and also contributes through continuous coordination with government departments in the help of young engineers to join the labor market. The Memorandum of Understanding lays the foundations for cooperation with the University in a number of areas, he added, including promoting conferences and events organized by the University of Sharjah, encouraging the joining of faculty members and students to the membership of the Society of Engineers, exchanging experiences and research in the field of engineering, and cooperation in field visits of students from the College of Engineering at the University while introducing them to the Society’s activities, cooperating in the field of training and developing students from the College of Engineering, and sponsoring activities and events.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed joint cooperation opportunities in several areas, including holding specialized training courses in modern engineering sciences, as well as providing expertise, scientific advice and arbitration. The Society would also contribute in extracurricular activities, workshops and scientific lectures, the sponsorship of research projects and scientific forums, and the provision of training opportunities for the College students.

Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies attended the signing of the agreement along with Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs; Prof. Ahmed Al-Shama'a, Dean of the  College of Engineering; Prof. Abdallah Shanableh, Director of the Research Institute for Sciences and Engineering; and Prof. Radhi Al Zubaidi, Director of the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development. From the Society of Engineers’ side, Eng. Tareq Deemas Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Society, and Eng. Saleh Al Marri, Government Communication Coordinator, attended.
